Part of the Hartsville community since 1902.
Our Story
St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church has been part of the Hartsville community since 1902, when a small group of Episcopalians gathered for worship in a local meeting hall. From these humble beginnings, the parish grew into a spiritual home for generations.
Situated near the gates of Coker University, St. Bart’s is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, The Episcopal Church, and the historic Diocese of South Carolina.
Our story is one of resilience, faith, and a community that continues to grow and welcome new generations.
A Church Rebuilt
In its long history, St. Bart’s faced a devastating fire that destroyed the original church building. Through the dedication and faith of parishioners and the wider Hartsville community, the church was rebuilt. The new sanctuary was thoughtfully designed around the organ, creating a space that honors the past while welcoming the future.
Celebrating 125 Years
Next year, St. Bartholomew’s will celebrate its 125th anniversary, marking more than a century of worship, fellowship, and service. It’s a time to honor those who came before us and to look ahead with hope.

We have a legacy of inclusion, aspiring to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being; women and men serve as bishops, priests, and deacons in our church. Laypeople and clergy cooperate as leaders at all levels of our church. Leadership is a gift from God, and can be expressed by all people in our church.
We believe that God loves you – no exceptions.
